Communities for Children

We support early childhood development in the Cairns south and Yarrabah communities.

Communities for Children

We are a Communities for Children facilitating partner, delivering programs and support to children in the Cairns south and Yarrabah communities. Our vision is of “a connected and family-friendly community, in which children develop well, feel safe and secure, and are happy, healthy, learning, and active.”

Mission Australia’s Communities for Children is an early intervention and prevention program that aims to improve the development, health and wellbeing of children aged 12 and under by addressing local needs and encouraging community participation. We support families to provide safe environments, learning opportunities, and well-being for children, with the intention of creating strong communities.

We believe in the power of early intervention, which is why we focus on helping families strengthen their relationships, improve parenting skills, and ensure the well-being of all children. Together, we can build a brighter future for our kids!

State of the Children Report

The State of the Children Report (prepared on behalf of Mission Australia and the Communities for Children Working Group) highlights the importance of improving support systems for children’s health and well-being. It stresses how vital community engagement is and the crucial role local services play in making a difference.

The Communities for Children program takes a whole-of-community approach and focuses on providing services for early childhood development and wellbeing for children.

Communities for Children Cairns South & Yarrabah Community Partners support children under 12 by enhancing their development needs through early intervention. Our Community Partners also offer programs to support parents to foster positive relationships with their children, nurturing their learning, social, and emotional growth.
