Cairns Rocks

Cairns Rocks

Yes it does! But I’m talking about a different type of rocking.  Rock painting.

A few years ago, while down at the Esplanade, my son found a painted rock and picked it up. It was beautiful and on the back was a message:

“Facebook

Cairns Rocks

Take a picture and post

Then rehide it or keep it”

So off I went to Facebook to see what it was all about.

So what exactly is the purpose? The idea is part of a worldwide kindness project with an aim of promoting happiness and positivity through small hand painted rocks.

Your rock might become a treasure for a small child or be a happy moment in the day of someone going through a hard time.

Apart from the joy of potentially making someone’s day it’s really fun to see where the rocks end up. I have had a few travel from my home town in Christchurch to cities a few hours away. And I have taken them on holidays to Bali and Rarotonga hoping they may end up on an adventure of their own.

Now if I’m honest people don’t always post when they find a rock but that doesn’t take away from the fun.

Some cities have particular parks that are known for rock hiding and hunting. I like to hide my at Sugarworld Gardens or take them to the playground.

Want to get involved it’s simple. Find a rock. Paint it and seal it (you can use clear spray paint) and then hide it (in a sensible place). Check out Cairns Rocks, Qld Rocks or Australia Rocks on Facebook to have a look and google rock painting for beginners for some ideas.

Happy Rocking
